Define which file types are allowed in a specific category to make sure users only upload the formats that match the category's purpose. A simple way to avoid clutter, confusion, and unwanted file types in your DAM.
Sometimes, it’s not about what users upload, but how. By limiting the accepted file formats for a category, you ensure only the right kind of files end up in the right place. This helps prevent unnecessary conversions, misuse, and accidental uploads of unsupported or irrelevant content.
Why use file type restrictions
Each category in QBank is often designed for a specific type of asset, like images, videos, documents, or templates. Allowing only the formats that make sense for that category helps reduce noise, avoid errors, and keep your structure clean.
Examples of where this is useful
- Video materials: Allow only MP4 or MOV to make sure content works across your channels and tools.
- Image categories: Restrict to JPG, PNG, or SVG to prevent users from uploading unsupported formats like RAW or PSD.
- Document libraries: Accept only PDF and DOCX to avoid clutter from spreadsheet files or design formats.
- Design templates: Allow INDD or AI files and block exports like JPGs to keep the editable source files intact.
- Presentation folders: Accept only PPTX to ensure reusable slide content is uploaded in the correct format.
How to configure accepted file types
-
Go to the Administration tab
-
Click Categories
-
Create a new category or edit an existing one
-
Scroll to the Accepted file types section
-
Select the file formats you want to allow from the list
-
Save the category
Once saved, only the selected file types will be accepted when uploading to that category.
What users will see
When uploading, users will be informed about the allowed file types before they reach the metadata step. If they try to upload something that doesn't match, the system will block the upload and display a message like:
The list of accepted file types will be shown clearly in the upload prompt, helping users stay on track from the start.
Related configurations
